Oddsmakers from online sports book Sportsbook.com have made the Angels +3000 on the money line to win the 2011 World Series and +240 to win the AL West. The Halos also have an over/under of 83 for wins in 2011.

Best Offseason Addition: How the Blue Jays got the Angels to take on what was once hailed the most untrade-able contract in baseball is beyond me. But alas, Vernon Wells was the Halos’ most prized addition this winter. Financial concerns aside, Wells gives the Angels a solid bat and if he can produce similar numbers to 2010, he’ll be a highly valuable commodity on this team. The club also added Scott Downs in the offseason.

Notable Losses: The Angeles traded catcher/first baseman Mike Napoli and the one-year experiment with Hideki Matsui is now over with as well. The former Yankee wound up with the A’s while Napoli resurfaced in Texas.

Season Outlook: There’s plenty of reason for optimism here. Kendry Morales returns from a freak injury and don’t forget the Angels picked up Dan Haren at the deadline last year. Haren pitched very well after he was traded to L.A. and he was once considered the top pitchers in the National League. If Scott Kazmir could ever avoid the disabled list, L.A.’s starting rotation is pretty sound. They’re an older lineup (Wells, Torri Hunter, Bobby Abreu, etc.), but this is a seasoned club that can withstand the long 162-game season. Assuming Morales doesn’t break any more bones while celebrating home runs, don’t rule out the Halos reclaiming their spot at the top of the AL West standings and promptly losing to somebody like the Yankees or Red Sox in the playoffs. (They love to do that.)
