(The Spread) – Winning the AL East may still be a mountain of a task for the Baltimore Orioles. But after a busy offseason, they could surprise.

Oddsmakers from online sports book SBGGLOBAL.com currently list the Orioles at +8000 on the money line to win the 2011 World Series and +1600 to win the AL East. Baltimore also has an over/under total of 76.5 for number of wins in 2011.
Offseason Additions: The O’s signed Vladimir Guerrero, Derrek Lee and Kevin Gregg to free agent contracts, while also adding Cesar Izturis, Jeremy Accardo and Justin Duchscherer. Baltimore acquired Mark Reynolds, J.J. Hardy and Brendan Harris via trades this winter.
Offseason Losses: The Orioles parted ways with Ty Wigginton, Kevin Millwood, Corey Patterson, Cla Meredith, Julio Lugo, Scott Moore, Jim Hoey, David Hernandez, Matt Alberts and Kam Mickolio in the offseason.
Season Outlook: The Orioles’ best attribute is their offense, which is now solid 1 through 9 in the lineup. The additions of Guerrero, Lee and Reynolds will help keep this club somewhat competitive in the AL East, although their promising young pitching will have to have a great year if they’re going to challenge for a Wild Card spot. It seems highly unlikely that the O’s will overcome a stacked Red Sox team in the division, but the Rays and maybe even the Yankees can be had if Baltimore plays well all season. If they can play with the same energy they had when Buck Showalter was named manager late last year, then you never know. Teams come out of nowhere all the time in baseball. (Just look at the Rangers and Giants last season.)
