Oddsmakers from online sports book Bodog.com have made the Phillies a 13/4 favorite to win the 2011 World Series and an 8/5 favorite to win the National League Pennant. They’re also –350 on the money line to win the NL East and have an over/under of 96.5 wins in 2011.

Offseason Additions: Cliff Lee shocked fans in Texas and New York when he signed the Phillies this offseason. Many pundits believed that he was destined to take his act to the Bronx or, at the very least, return to Texas and try to make another World Series run with the Rangers. But in the end, his heart has always been in Philadelphia (where he pitched two years ago before being traded to Seattle) and the Phillies came through with an offer. Now he’s in a rotation that also features Roy Halladay, Cole Hamels and Roy Oswalt. Good luck National League, hitters!

Offseason Losses: The Phillies will feel the impact of losing Jayson Werth, who signed a huge deal with the lowly Nationals. He provided pop in the middle of their lineup and played a nice right field, so the loss hurts. The club also parted ways with Chad Durbin, Jamie Moyer, Greg Dobbs and Mike Sweeney.

Offseason Outlook: It’s pretty easy to see why the Phillies are favored to win the National League pennant this year. They have they best starting rotation in all of baseball and a lineup that still features Ryan Howard, Jimmy Rollins and Raul Ibanez. That said, Chase Utley’s knee injury is a major concern. It will be impossible for the club to replace his production in the lineup and if he’s out for an extended period of time, the rest of the Phillies’ offense has zero margin for error. That will put a lot of pressure on Howard, who has carried this offense before but will be relied upon even more now. The Phillies should win the NL East and contend for the World Series, but the Braves aren’t far behind in terms of talent and if one of Philly’s top 4 starters goes down with an injury or struggles, it’ll be interesting to see if this club falls flat.
