(The Spread) – The Detroit Tigers are definitely a contender in the wide-open AL Central but do they have enough quality starting pitching to make a run?

Oddsmakers from online sports book Bodog.com have made the Tigers +2000 on the money line to win the 2011 World Series and +175 to win the AL Central. They also have an over/under of 84.5 for number of wins this season.
Offseason Additions: The Tigers were aggressive this offseason, signing DH/C Victor Martinez to a four-year, $50 million contract and inking RP Joaquin Benoit to a three-year, $16.5 million deal. They also signed starter Brad Penny to a free agent contract and re-upped with Brandon Inge.
Offseason Losses: The Tigers lost starting pitchers Jeremy Bonderman (free agent) and Armando Galarraga (trade/Diamondbacks), as well as outfielder Johnny Damon (Rays) and catcher Gerald Laid (Cardinals).
Season Outlook: The Tigers have a very promising young core, led by Austin Jackson, and the bullpen is stacked with talent. Thanks to Martinez and Miguel Cabrera, they also have more than enough offense to compete with the Twins and the White Sox in the AL Central. But will they win the division or just compete? That’s the question. Do they have enough proven starting pitching? Can this club mask how bad the outfield is defensively? There are many pundits who believe this is the team to beat in the AL Central and maybe they’re right. But there are still plenty of questions that surround this team, including whether or not guys like Magglio Ordonez (who missed over 100 games the last two years due to injuries), Carlos Guillen and Joel Zumaya can stay healthy. (In fact, those last two players (Guillen and Zumaya) are already hurt.) Will this team compete? Yes. Will this team win the AL Central? Eh…
