D-Backs’ Season Odds
Can the Arizona Diamondbacks emerge in a suddenly competitive NL West Division and make a run at the 2010 World Series? Let’s take a look at their odds for the new MLB season.
The Diamondbacks certainly have all the pieces in place to make a run at a division title, but whether or not everything will come together on the field is another story. Over the past couple of years, Arizona has had success in their rotation, bullpen and offense, but all three components haven’t come together in the same year yet. Maybe 2010 will finally be their season.
The D-Backs acquired first baseman Adam LaRoche and second baseman Kelly Johnson to give their offense a boost. Coupled with young catcher Miguel Montero and power hitter Mark Reynolds, Arizona certainly has enough offense to win the NL West.
The club’s rotation is solid as well, depending on the health status of Brandon Webb. If Webb can make it through a full season, he, Dan Haren and Edwin Jackson form a formidable trio.
Oddsmakers from online sports book BroburySports.com have made the Diamondbacks a 30/1 long shot to win the 2010 World Series. Arizona is also 3.5/1 to win the NL West, 13/1 to win the NL Pennant and has an over/under of 82.5 for number of wins in 2010.
So, will the D-Backs make a run in 2010? Well, they certainly have enough talent to do so, but they need a healthy season out of Webb and the new pieces to gel with developing players Justin Upton, Chris Young and Stephen Drew. Given the club’s talent level, Arizona is certainly a value at 30/1 and more so, at 3.5/1 to win the division.
