Collin McHugh (4-2, 3.45 ERA) will draw the start for Houston, while Boston turns to Hector Velasquez (3-1, 3.48). McHugh has a 1.33 WHIP with 54 strikeouts over 57 1/3 innings. He gave up two earned runs on seven hits with six strikeouts and three walks over five innings in an 11-2 win at the Rangers his last start. Velasquez carries a 1.11 WHIP with 15 strikeouts in 20 2/3 innings. He has not given up a run in his last seven innings of work, all of which came out of the bullpen. This will be his third start out of eight appearances.
Houston is 100-61 on the season and 52-28 on the road, while Boston is 93-68 and 48-32 at home. The season series is tied 3-3 and the over-under is also 3-3.
Saturday saw the Astros lose out on their chance for home-field advantage through the ALCS with a 6-3 defeat, while the Red Sox clinched the AL East title. Mookie Betts went 2-for-3 with three runs, a solo home run and a walk. Drew Pomeranz gave up one earned run in six innings to get the win. Brian McCann hit a solo home run for Houston. Lance McCullers allowed five earned runs in 4 1/3 innings to take the loss.
Neither team has anything to play for in this game, which wasn’t the case in the previous three games of the series. Due to pitching matchup alone, we’re going to side with the Astros. Check the lineups before placing a bet because many players could potentially be rested.
