Brett Anderson (4-4, 6.97 ERA) gets the start for Toronto, while New York counters with Jordan Montgomery (9-7, 3.96). Anderson has a 1.85 WHIP with 35 strikeouts in 50 1/3 innings. He gave up three earned runs on six hits with three strikeouts and three walks over five innings in a 6-4 win at the Red Sox his last outing. Montgomery holds a 1.25 WHIP with 141 strikeouts over 150 innings. He surrendered one earned run on five hits with five strikeouts and one walk in six innings during a 6-1 home win over the Rays his last start.
The Blue Jays are 75-86 on the year and 33-47 on the road, while the Yankees are 91-70 and 52-29 at home. Toronto has won six of the last 10 meetings and the total has gone under six times.
On Saturday, New York secured a 2-1 victory for its second win in as many games in the series. Aaron Judge hit his rookie record 52nd home run, a solo shot. CC Sabathia threw 5 2/3 scoreless innings with six strikeouts to get the win. Ezequiel Carrera was 1-for-3 and scored the lone run for Toronto. Marcus Stroman allowed two earned runs in four innings to take the loss.
Montgomery has had a good deal of success in his rookie year and will be an asset during the postseason in some form, almost certainly out of the bullpen. He should wrap up his regular season with a win here. Even though the Yankees have nothing to play for today due to the Red Sox clinching the AL East Saturday, players being rested might not have an effect with how dismal Anderson has been this season. Take New York here.
