Cain helps guide Brewers to win
Milwaukee outfielder Lorenzo Cain ended the game 2-for-4 with a stolen base, a run and an RBI to help lead the way to a 4-3 win over the Cubs yesterday. Christian Yelich was 1-for-5 with two RBIs, including the game-winning fielder’s choice in the bottom of the ninth inning. Jeremy Jeffress picked up the win in relief as he allowed one hit and struck out one in a scoreless inning of work.
Rizzo continues hot hitting
Anthony Rizzo continued his second-half surge as he ended Monday’s loss by going 3-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs. Ian Happ was 0-for-1, but walked twice and scored a run. Steve Cishek took the loss in relief as he gave up one earned run on no hits with one strikeout and one walk over two-thirds of an inning.
Mike Montgomery (4-4, 3.82 ERA) will start today for Chicago, while Milwaukee turns to Wade Miley (2-2, 2.18).
MLB Betting Trends
Chicago
Montgomery is 4-12 against NL Central opponents the last two seasons. Chicago is 9-5 against Milwaukee this season.
Milwaukee
The Brewers are 35-31 against teams with a winning record this season. Milwaukee is 54-30 in night games this season.
Prediction:
This series is as important as it gets for the Brewers if they have any hopes of winning the NL Central. Miley is still overachieving and it appears the changes he made to his pitching style have worked. Montgomery is hittable and probably profiles better as a long reliever. I like Milwaukee to get to Montgomery and get another win tonight.
