Royals continue slide
Kansas City has extended its losing streak to five games after an 11-3 loss to the Twins on Saturday evening. They have lost eight of their last nine as well. The Royals are 40-72 overall, 17-37 on the road and 57-49 with the over. KC has Brad Keller getting the start today. He is 7-10 on the year with a 4.01 ERA.
Kansas City didn’t get much of a chance on Saturday, as the Twins put up seven runs over the first two innings. Danny Duffy was rocked for nine runs over 4.2 innings to fall to 5-6 on the year. At the plate, KC was led by Jorge Soler, who had his 29th home run and scored two runs. Meibrys Viloria added two RBI for the Royals.
Twins keep hitting
Minnesota has five of its last six and the first two games in this series with the Royals thanks to scoring 22 runs over the two contests. The Twins are 68-42 on the season, 33-21 at home and 56-48 with the over. Minnesota has Jake Odorizzi on the mound today. He is 12-5 on the year with a 3.73 ERA.
Kyle Gibson was given plenty of run support on Saturday. He improved to 11-4 on the year with a win. He threw 6.2 innings and gave up two earned runs while striking out six. The Twins had five home runs in the win. Nelson Cruz hit three on the day to give him 30 on the year. He finished with five RBI as well. C.J. Cron and Jorge Polanco each homered as well. Polanco finished with three RBI while Cron had two.
MLB Betting Trends
Kansas City
The Royals are 1-6 in their last seven against a right-handed starter and 18-62 in their last 80 Game 3’s of a series.
Minnesota
The Twins are just 1-11 in their last 12 Game 3’s of a series, but they have won Odorizzi’s last five home starts against a losing team.
Prediction:
Keller has been a bright spot for the Royals most of the season. He has actually been quite solid against Minnesota as well, posting a 2.08 ERA over two starts. Odorizzi has had some shaky outings over the past few weeks, but still has impressive numbers for the season. However, he has struggled with KC, posting a 7.20 ERA over two starts. Given the splits, and the odd trend where Minnesota has struggled mightily in Game 3’s of a series, I am going to take my chances on the underdog.
MLB Prediction: Kansas City Royals +185
