Blue Jays struggling on road trip
The Blue Jays are in the midst of a long road trip in which they are 2-4 and coming off being swept by the Athletics in Oakland. Toronto is now 48-59 overall and 21-31 on the road. The Jays are putting up 4.46 runs per game this year while allowing 5.10 per contest.
Tyler Clippard will get the start for the Blue Jays this evening. It is his first start of the year as he has 53 relief appearances. Clippard has a 4-3 record with a 3.73 ERA and a 1.14 WHIP. He has pitched 50.2 innings and has 59 strikeouts with 17 walks.
Mariners hoping to get on track
The Mariners are coming off series losses to the Angels and Astros over the last week and looking to get back on track in the AL West race. Seattle is now 63-45 overall and 35-21 at home. The Mariners are putting up 4.19 runs per game this year while allowing 4.27 per contest on defense.
Felix Hernandez is getting the start for the Mariners this evening. He has started 21 games this year and has an 8-9 record with a 5.58 ERA and a 1.41 WHIP. Hernandez has pitched 113.0 innings this year and has 95 strikeouts with 40 walks.
MLB Betting Trends
Toronto
The Blue Jays have lost five straight against AL West opponents and five straight against winning teams.
Seattle
The Mariners have won 14 of their last 17 home games against a team with a losing record and 26 of their last 37 at home overall.
Prediction:
Hernandez has been a bit of a mess, but I don’t think the Jays can expect a long run for Clippard tonight and the Toronto bullpen isn’t something you can rely on. Seattle can at least turn to a bullpen that is accustomed to grinding out tough games. I think the Mariners find a way to win this one over a poor road team in Toronto.
The Pick: Seattle Mariners -145
