Phillies’ Velasquez dominates in victory over Padres
Vince Velazquez was dominant in Sunday’s victory over the Padres, racking up seven strikeouts over seven shutout innings. The right-hander scattered just two hits (both of them singles) and walked one. He was in complete command throughout, needing just 87 pitches to blaze through seven innings. Now 6-8 on the season, Velasquez sports a 4.09 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 117/36 K/BB ratio across 101 1/3 innings on the year. He’ll look to keep the good times going when he takes on the Reds in Cincinnati on Saturday.
Reds’ Harvey rocked for four home runs in last start
Matt Harvey was rocked for eight runs in 3 2/3 innings on Sunday in a loss to the Pirates. Harvey gave up four homers in the loss, and he also allowed eight hits while striking out two. He didn’t walk anyone, if you’re desperate for positives. The former Met had been pitching well before this disaster, but today was a reminder that he’s still capable of having clunkers. This would definitely count as a clunker. It raises his ERA to 5.21, and he’ll take that ERA and a WHIP of 1.32 into his next scheduled start against the Phillies on Friday. That’s assuming he’s not dealt beforehand, of course.
