Myers helps guide Padres to win
San Diego left fielder Wil Myers had two doubles in four at-bats Monday night, scoring a run in a 3-2 victory. Freddy Galvis finished 1-for-4 with a run and an RBI. Manuel Margot contributed an RBI triple in four at-bats. Joey Lucchesi was a late addition as starting pitcher and he allowed two earned runs on six hits with six strikeouts and no walks over 5 1/3 innings to pick up the win. Kirby Yates struck out two in a scoreless inning of work to earn the win.
deGrom unlucky once again
Mets starting pitcher Jacob deGrom dropped to 5-5 on the season as he gave up three runs (two earned) on five hits with 10 strikeouts and two walks over eight innings to take the loss. He only has a .500 record despite a 1.71 ERA on the season. Wilmer Flores was 1-for-3 with a walk and an RBI to help pace the New York offense. Michael Conforto finished 2-for-3, while Jose Reyes went 1-for-4 with an RBI single.
Eric Lauer (5-6, 4.87 ERA) starts today for the Padres, while Zack Wheeler (3-6, 4.44) gets the nod for the Mets.
MLB Betting Trends
San Diego
The under is 11-2 in the last 13 Padres games following a win. San Diego is 8-23 in its last 31 games overall.
New York
The Mets are 7-22 in their last 29 home games. New York is 8-23 in its last 31 Tuesday games.
Prediction:
Lauer had his start pushed back a day and he should be well-rested for this game. As for Wheeler, he’s had an up-and-down season and could be part of a trade in the upcoming week. With that weighing on his mind, perhaps he doesn’t focus enough on mowing down the Padres. If San Diego can knock off deGrom, there is no reason it can’t get another win here against a hapless Mets squad.
