M’s drop final game before All-Star Break
Seattle gave up five runs in the top of the first inning and could not recover Sunday afternoon in a 7-4 home loss against Oakland. Omar Narvaez led the Mariners offensively as he was a perfect 4-for-4 with two home runs and four RBIs. J.P. Crawford and Domingo Santana were both 1-for-4 with a double and a run scored. Matt Carasiti was shelled in taking the loss for Seattle as he allowed five runs (four earned) on four hits over one-third of an inning, striking out one and walking one. Mike Leake gets the start for the M’s tonight as he enters with a 7-7 record, 4.32 ERA and 1.24 WHIP with 83 strikeouts over 114 2/3 innings pitched.
Angels drop crazy game to Astros
Los Angeles went into the All-Star Break with a crushing defeat as it fell 11-10 in 10 innings at Houston Sunday afternoon. Mike Trout paced the Angels offense as he finished 2-for-5 with two home runs and four RBIs. Shohei Ohtani went 1-for-6 with a homer and two RBIs. David Fletcher was 3-for-5 with two doubles, a walk and two runs scored. Andrelton Simmons ended the game 3-for-6 with a run. Taylor Cole took the loss in relief as he gave up one earned run on two hits with no strikeouts or walks in one-third of an inning. Cole will actually start today’s game as he comes in with an 0-1 record, 4.58 ERA and 1.58 WHIP with 20 strikeouts over 19 2/3 innings.
MLB Betting Trends
Seattle
Seattle is 1-7 in the last seven Leake road starts. Seattle is 9-25 in its last 34 road games.
Los Angeles
The Angels are 1-6 in their last seven Friday games. Los Angeles is 4-0 in its last four series openers.
Prediction:
Leake is having a serviceable season and even though he tends to struggle on the road, he has pitched fairly well against the Angels this season. Cole has primarily come out of the bullpen and this is only his second start of the season, so I’m going to try and take advantage of the pitching matchup here. The Angels are an inconsistent team and betting on an underdog with the better pitcher on the mound isn’t the worst idea in the world.
