Red Sox hammered by Yanks in finale
Boston was trounced by a count of 11-1 Sunday night at New York, surrendering six home runs in the defeat. David Price was hammered for eight earned runs on nine hits with three strikeouts and no walks in 3 1/3 innings, giving up five of the home runs. Sandy Leon doubled and scored the only Red Sox run in the ninth inning, while Rafael Devers accounted for the RBI.
Nationals struggle in series at Phillies
Washington lost three out of four at Philadelphia including Sunday’s 4-3 loss in 13 innings, which dropped it six games back of Atlanta in the NL East. The Nationals led 3-0 until surrendering three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning, then the score remained there until an Andrew Knapp walk-off homer in the 13th. Adam Eaton finished 2-for-6 with a pair of RBIs from the leadoff spot. Trea Turner was 3-for-6 and scored a run. Anthony Rendon went 1-for-3 with a double, an RBI and two walks. Mark Reynolds finished 2-for-4 with a walk and scored a run. Justin Miller took the loss as the ninth Washington pitcher, giving up one earned run on two hits with two strikeouts and one walk in 1 1/3 innings.
Rick Porcello (9-3, 3.60 ERA) draws the start today for Boston, while the Nats turn to Scherzer (10-4, 2.04).
MLB Betting Trends
Boston
The over is 8-2-2 in the last 12 Red Sox games on a Monday. Boston is 39-12 in its last 51 interleague games.
Washington
The under is 22-6 in the last 28 Nationals interleague games. Washington is 14-4 in its last 18 games on a Monday.
Prediction:
Boston’s offense is elite, but it loses value today going up against Scherzer in a pitcher’s park. Porcello is generally steady for Boston and faces a Washington offense that isn’t always living up to the standard where it should be. I think this game screams under and I’m going to bet that Scherzer delivers another masterful performance on national TV.
