Angels’ Pena whiffs six in no-decision vs. Blue Jays
Felix Pena allowed three earned runs, eight hits and a walk with six strikeouts over five innings in a no-decision Sunday against Toronto. Pena threw 56 of his 83 pitches for strikes, throwing first-pitch strikes to 19 of the 24 batters he faced. He is likely to continue working in the rotation until Garrett Richards (hamstring) and Nick Tropeano (shoulder) are healthy enough to return from the 10-day disabled list. He’ll face a favorable matchup next time out on Friday evening in Baltimore.
Orioles’ Hess struggles again in loss to Braves
David Hess allowed five runs over four innings in a loss to the Braves on Sunday. Hess walked two and struck out four, and he allowed seven hits while throwing 63-of-93 pitches for strikes. It’s three-straight starts that the left-hander has allowed five runs, and his ERA of 5.44 is an accurate description of his talent as a starter. It would be a mistake to stream him on Friday when Hess and the Orioles face off against the Angels.
