Cabrera drives in lone run
Pittsburgh lost by a score of 5-1 at Houston Tuesday night to drop to 36-41 overall and 19-22 on the road. Melky Cabrera helped lead the Pirates offensively as he finished 1-for-4 with an RBI. Elias Diaz went 2-for-3 plus a walk. Colin Moran ended the contest 2-for-4 with a double. Trevor Williams suffered the loss as he allowed four earned runs on eight hits with four strikeouts and no walks over 6 2/3 innings. Dario Agrazal will start today for Pittsburgh as he gave up three runs (two earned) on six hits with three strikeouts and no walks in his MLB debut, a 4-3 loss June 15 at Miami.
Bregman, Gurriel homer in win
Houston notched a 5-1 home victory Tuesday night over Pittsburgh to improve to 50-30 overall and 28-11 at home. Gerrit Cole picked up the win against his former team as he allowed one earned run on seven hits over six innings, striking out three and walking two. Alex Bregman helped lead the Astros offense as he went 3-for-4 with a solo home run, a double and three runs scored. Yuli Gurriel was 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBIs. Josh Reddick finished 2-for-3 with a double and a run. Framber Valdez starts tonight for the Astros as he comes in with a 3-3 record, 3.61 ERA and 1.25 WHIP with 39 strikeouts over 42 1/3 innings.
MLB Betting Trends
Pittsburgh
The Pirates are 4-1 in their last five games overall. Pittsburgh is 2-9 in its last 11 road games.
Houston
The Astros are 41-17 in their last 58 home games. Houston is 1-4 in its last five interleague games.
Prediction:
I don’t trust a rookie pitcher making his second career MLB start on the road against this powerful offense. Valdez is young too, but has plenty more experience at the MLB level and should get the run support to help carry him tonight. Houston is favored this much for good reason. I don’t see a strong argument on the road team here other than anything can happen in baseball. But there is way less risk involved with the Astros and that’s where I’m siding.
