Cubs drop four straight at Reds
Chicago could not get it going at lowly Cincinatti as it was swept in four games through the weekend, including Sunday’s 8-6 finale. The Cubs led 6-1, but gave up seven runs in the bottom of the seventh inning in the collapse. Pedro Strop took the loss in relief as he allowed four earned runs on four hits with one strikeout and three walks while only retiring two batters. Albert Almora Jr. helped pace the offense as he went 3-for-5 with a solo home run. Jayson Hayward and Anthony Rizzo were both 1-for-4 with a 2-run homer. Javier Baez was 2-for-4 with a double, a run and an RBI.
Dodgers sweep host Mets
Los Angeles completed a three-game sweep at New York Sunday afternoon with an 8-7 victory in 11 innings. Justin Turner came off the bench in the latter innings and ended up hitting the go-ahead solo homer in the 11th. Enrique Hernandez paced the Dodgers offense by going 3-for-6 with two solo home runs and three runs scored from the leadoff spot. Cody Bellinger finished 2-for-5 with two solo home runs. Max Muncy went 2-for-5 with a solo home run. Yasiel Puig ended the game 2-for-4 with a walk. Joc Pederson was 1-for-4 with a solo homer and a walk. Daniel Hudson earned the win as the seventh LA pitcher as he threw two scoreless innings, giving up one hit while striking out two and walking one.
Duane Underwood Jr. will be making his MLB debut on the mound for the Cubs today, while the Dodgers counter with Kenta Maeda (4-4, 3.84).
MLB Betting Trends
Chicago
The Cubs are 37-15 in their last 52 Monday games. Chicago is 3-8 in the last 11 meetings.
Los Angeles
The under is 8-2 in the last 10 Dodgers games. Los Angeles is 25-9 in its last 34 games.
Prediction:
Maeda hasn’t been all that sharp since coming off the disabled list, but he gets to face a Cubs squad that hasn’t been too sharp in general. Underwood only had a 4.27 ERA in Triple A, so I’d imagine the Dodgers get to him some here even if they don’t have a great scouting report. Maeda always has the ability to turn it up a notch too, but the run support he receives should be enough regardless.
MLB DAILY PREDICTION: LOS ANGELES DODGERS -161
