From Rotoworld: Wacha wasn’t long for Thursday’s game, allowing four runs on seven hits over four-plus innings in a no-decision against the Brewers. Wacha was staked to an early two-run lead but handed it right back, falling behind twice more before being removed with no outs in the fifth inning. He gave up a home run and walked three while striking out five on the night. He sprinkled in a quality start his last time out but otherwise has turned in starts of 4, 3, 4 1/3 and now 4 innings over his last five starts. That leaves him with a 4.78 ERA and 1.45 WHIP, and it may be time for the club to think about moving the 25-year-old out of the rotation.
Pivetta matched Red Sox ace Chris Sale pitch for pitch Thursday, striking out nine over seven scoreless innings to help the Phillies earn a 1-0 win. Coming into the game, the 24-year-old hadn’t pitched more than five innings and had allowed three or more runs in four of his first six starts, but on this night he was on par with one of the game’s best. Pivetta scattered four hits and walked two before exiting. The only negative was that he wasn’t around when the Phillies scored the winning run, leaving the right-hander with a no-decision. Pivetta is 1-3 with a 4.46 ERA in seven starts overall.
Bet Tonight’s Cardinals vs. Phillies Game
OUR PREDICTION: The over is 6-1 in the Cardinals’ last seven games overall, is 5-2 in their last seven road games, and is 12-5 in their last 17 games versus National League East opponents. Given the struggles of Wacha and the fact that his spot in the rotation is at jeopardy, the over is a good bet tonight in a hitter-friendly park. Plus, even though Pivetta shut down the Red Sox in his last outing, he hasn’t been great this season and is in store for a regression.
WEDNESDAY MLB PREDICTION: CARDINALS/PHILLIES OVER 9.5
