Giants’ Bumgarner allows four runs to Marlins in no-decision
Madison Bumgarner surrendered four runs in 5 1/3 innings Monday in a no-decision against the Marlins. Bumgarner allowed his third and fourth runs in the sixth before departing with two on and one out. He was then ejected after complaining about balls and strikes on his way off the mound. Fortunately for him, Reyes Moronta came in and immediately got a double play ball to limit the damage. Bumgarner still has a ways to go to get into top form.
Dodgers’ Wood to return to mound on Saturday
Alex Wood will start on Saturday against the Giants on Saturday. It’s a way to give Wood an extra day of rest, and Ross Stripling will make the start on Friday on regular rest. Wood struggled in his previous start; giving up nine hits and four runs — although only two were earned — against Atlanta on Saturday. The extra rest should give him a chance to get back on track, as the Dodgers need Wood at his best if they have any chance of reaching the postseason in 2018.
MLB Betting Trends
San Francisco
The Giants are 3-8 in their last 11 games versus the Dodgers in Los Angeles. They’re also 2-7 in Bumgarner’s last nine starts versus the Dodgers and have dropped five of his last six road outings against Los Angeles as well.
Los Angeles
The Dodgers are 25-12 in Wood’s last 37 starts and are 4-1 in his last five outings when he’s coming off six days of rest.
Prediction:
The game was low-scoring last night as the Dodgers took Game 1 3-2 against their rivals. That said, with Bumgarner not in top form yet, I see tonight playing out differently. The over is 5-1 in Wood’s last six starts against the Giants, is 4-0 in his last four outings overall, and is 4-1 in his last five home starts. On the other side, the over is 5-2-1 in the Giants’ last eight games coming off a loss and is 4-0 in their last four road games versus a left-handed starter.
The Pick: Giants/Dodgers over 7.5
