Goldschmidt socks two more home runs
Goldschmidt, the D-backs’ slugging first baseman, was formerly slumping but now has been on a tear which continued Saturday with two home runs for a second straight day. He has 13 hits in his last 18 at-bats with four home runs, five doubles and nine RBIs to raise his batting average from .210 to .250. David Peralta finished 4-for-5 with a double and three RBIs in the 12-7 victory. Nick Ahmed was 3-for-4 with a home run, two doubles, two runs and three RBIs. Silvino Bracho threw two spotless innings of relief with four strikeouts to pick up the win.
Gonzalez scratched, Story shines
Colorado outfielder Carlos Gonzalez was originally set to bat cleanup Saturday, but was a late scratch with back tightness. Trevor Story was moved up to cleanup and ended up hitting two home runs in a 3-for-4 day, driving in four. D.J. LeMahieu was 2-for-4 with a home run, two runs and two RBIs. Noel Cuevas was 2-for-3 with a double and a run. Bryan Shaw suffered the loss as he was shelled for six runs (one earned) on four hits with two strikeouts and two walks in two-thirds of an inning.
Zack Godley (5-5, 5.12 ERA) will start today for Arizona, while the Rockies will send Kyle Freeland (6-5, 3.48) to the mound.
MLB Betting Trends
Arizona
The Diamondbacks are 6-2 in their last eight games. Arizona is 4-11 in its last 15 road games.
Colorado
The over is 9-0-2 in the last 11 Rockies games overall. The Rockies are 1-7 in the last eight meetings with the D-backs.
Prediction:
With Goldschmidt getting hit by a pitch late in yesterday’s game, today could get testy between the divisiion rivals. Godley hasn’t been able to figure it out this season after pitching very well in 2017. Coors Field isn’t going to help his cause. Freeland has been the better pitcher and with Colorado desperate for a win today to stay within 1.5 of first rather than 3.5 down, I’m taking the hosts here.
