Cincinnati Reds Fantasy Spin
Derek Dietrich went 1-for-4 with an RBI double in Sunday’s loss to the Nationals. Dietrich doubled off Max Scherzer in the fourth inning to drive in Joey Votto, the only run that Scherzer allowed in the game. The 29-year-old second baseman is hitting a mouthwatering .269/.373/.700 with 17 home runs and 37 RBI in 56 games this season. Dietrich has already set a new career-high for home runs and his best for RBI in a campaign — 53 in 2017 with the Marlins — could well fall in the next month or so if he can avoid a major slump.
St. Louis Cardinals Fantasy Spin
Kolten Wong went 2-for-2 with an RBI, stolen base and a run scored to lift the Cardinals to a narrow 2-1 victory over the Cubs on Sunday. Wong kicked off the scoring with an RBI sacrifice fly off Cubs’ starter Cole Hamels in the fifth inning. He also singled, swiped second base — his ninth theft of the season — and came around to score a pivotal insurance run in the eighth. The 28-year-old second baseman doesn’t offer much fantasy appeal in shallow formats, but his stolen base resurgence should keep him on mixed league radar screens in deeper formats.
MLB Betting Trends
Cincinnati
The Reds are 43-88 in their last 131 meetings with the Cardinals at Busch Stadium.
St. Louis
The Cardinals have won 22 of the last 32 meetings with the Reds overall.
Prediction:
Despite the Reds’ recent poor history in St. Louis and against the Cardinals, I like Cincinnati tonight. The Reds are 8-3 in Luis Castillo’s last 11 starts when he pitches Game 1 of a series and the Reds have won 15 of their last 22 games versus opponents with a winning record. Cincinnati is also 7-1 in its last eight games coming off a loss and 6-1 in its last seven games following an off day. Meanwhile, the Cardinals have dropped seven of eight following an off day and are just 3-7 in their last 10 games following a win.
Tuesday MLB Prediction: Cincinnati Reds -127
