Cubs rally after poor Chatwood start
Tyler Chatwood did not make it through the third inning for a second straight start Sunday night, giving up three earned runs on six hits with three strikeouts and five walks over 2 2/3 innings. Chicago trailed 3-0 after the top of the first inning, but evened it at 3-3 in the bottom half. The Cubs proceeded to score three more in the fourth and two in the fifth to take control. Albert Almora went 3-for-5 with two doubles, two runs and an RBI to pace the offense. Javier Baez went 2-for-5 and hit his 13th home run. Randy Rosario earned his first MLB win in relief.
Pirates drop two of three to Cardinals
Pittsburgh lost 6-4 at home against St. Louis on Sunday for its second straight defeat in the three-game series. The Pirates led until St. Louis scored twice in the seventh and three more in the eighth. Adam Frazier was 1-for-3 with a triple, a run and two RBIs to pace Pittsburgh. Austin Meadows finished 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI. Michael Feliz took the loss in relief as he allowed three earned runs while recording only one out.
Mike Montgomery (0-1, 5.33 ERA) starts today for the Cubs, while the Pirates counter with Chad Kuhl (4-2, 4.20).
MLB Betting Trends
Chicago
The under is 11-5-2 in the last 18 Cubs games on a Monday. Chicago is 35-16 in its last 51 Monday games.
Pittsburgh
The Pirates are 2-7 in their last nine games overall. The over is 8-1-1 in Kuhl’s last 10 starts on grass.
Prediction:
Chicago will be a little tired for this one after playing last night and now this afternoon. Kuhl has had his ups and downs this season, but should take advantage of a Cubs offense that might not be all the way there. Pittsburgh gave Sunday’s game away and will want to make amends here.
