Rangers doubled up in opener
Texas fell 4-2 Thursday night at Houston in the opener of a four-game series to fall to 17-18 overall and 5-11 on the road. Hunter Pence ended the contest 1-for-3 with a home run, a walk and two RBIs. Shin-Soo Choo went 0-for-2, but drew two walks. Elvis Andrus finished 1-for-3 and scored a run. Mike Minor suffered the loss as he allowed three earned runs on seven hits with five strikeouts and three walks over five innings. Lance Lynn will start tonight as he enters with a 4-2 record, 5.75 ERA and 1.57 WHIP with 36 strikeouts over 40 2/3 innings.
Reddick robs homer in win
Josh Reddick brought back what would have been a go-ahead 3-run homer by Pence in the top of the ninth inning Thursday night in a 4-2 victory at home by Houston over Texas. The Astros scored once in the fifth to tie it and once in the sixth inning to take the lead en route to the win. George Springer helped lead the way offensively as he went 3-for-5 offensively with a solo home run. Yuli Gurriel finished 2-for-4 with a run. Reddick went 1-for-4 with an RBI. Wade Miley picked up the win on the mound as he surrendered two earned runs on two hits with seven strikeouts and two walks over six innings. Verlander gets the start today for Houston as he comes in with a 5-1 record, 2.86 ERA and 0.87 WHIP with 60 strikeouts over 50 1/3 innings.
MLB Betting Trends
Texas
The Rangers are 17-36 in their last 53 road games. Texas is 4-1 in the last five Lynn starts.
Houston
The Astros are 5-1 in their last six games overall. Houston is 6-1 in the last seven Verlander home starts.
Prediction:
Lynn has gotten lucky with good run support this season, but don’t expect the same tonight as the Rangers offense deals with Verlander. While MLB can very often be unpredictable, I don’t see any surprises here with the Astros having the superior offense against the much inferior pitcher. Consider the runline bet too.
