Mariners’ strikes out whopping 16 in no-decision vs. A’s
James Paxton scattered five hits and a walk over seven scoreless innings with a career-high 16 strikeouts in Wednesday’s no-decision against the Athletics. Paxton departed with a 2-0 lead after throwing 105 pitches, but Juan Nicasio immediately came on and allowed two runs to take the win out of Paxton’s pocket. He joined Mark Langston, Mike Moore and Randy Johnson as the only pitchers in franchise history to log 16 or more strikeouts in a single game. The feat was last accomplished in 1997 by Johnson
Blue Jays’ Stroman takes another loss in last start
Marcus Stroman scattered six hits and two runs over seven innings Wednesday in the Blue Jays’ loss to the Twins. Stroman finished with five strikeouts and one walk over his 99 pitches. Eddie Rosario clubbed a solo home run off Stroman in the second and the Twins got to him for another run after loading the bases in the third inning.
Stroman blanked Minnesota over his last four innings but didn’t get any run support as the Jays’ bats fell silent against rookie Fernando Romero. The right-hander will take an ugly 7.52 ERA into his next start Tuesday against the Mariners. He’ll be looking for his first win since September 24.
