Red Sox’ Pomeranz earns first win of 2018
Drew Pomeranz was tagged for eight hits and three runs over six innings Wednesday in the Red Sox’s win over Kansas City. Pomeranz fanned three and walked two over his 89 pitches. The left-hander struggled early, giving up one run in the first and another two in the third. He was lights out after that, however, blanking KC while allowing just four hits over his final four innings. Pomeranz has seen a dip in velocity since coming back from a strained flexor tendon but his curve ball is still biting. He’ll make his next start Tuesday in the Bronx against the red-hot Yankees.
Yankees’ Severino strikes out 10 in complete-game shutout
Luis Severino struck out 10 and tossed a complete-game shutout against the Astros on Wednesday. He sprinkled five hits and one walk across nine innings of dominance to improve his record to 5-1 on the season. He has a stellar 2.11 ERA and 0.85 WHIP with 52 strikeouts in 47 innings. There is no longer any doubt that Severino is one of the most elite starting pitchers in the game. He draws a tough matchup against the Red Sox at home on Tuesday.
