Pirates snap losing streak
Pittsburgh put an end to an 8-game losing streak right on Tuesday by grabbing a 6-4 win over the Rangers in 11 innings. The Pirates are now 13-14 overall, 7-7 on the road and 16-11 with the under. Jameson Taillon gets the start for the Pirates this afternoon. He is 1-3 on the season with a 4.06 ERA.
The Pirates found themselves down 3-0 going into the bottom of the ninth on Tuesday, but rallied for three runs to force extra innings and then scored three in the 11th. Josh Bell had a two-run double in the ninth to tie up the game and then Bryan Reynolds and Sterling Marte each homered in the 11th inning. Kyle Crick ended up with the win in relief while Felipe Vazquez earned his seventh save of the season.
Rangers fall back to reality
After scoring 29 runs over two games against Seattle, the Rangers came back down to Earth on Tuesday in the 6-4 loss to the Pirates. Texas is now 14-14 on the season, 10-5 at home and 17-10 with the under. Texas has Shelby Miller taking the mound tonight. He is 1-1 on the season with a 7.52 ERA.
The Rangers wasted a solid start from Adrian Sampson on Tuesday. He went 5.2 innings and struck out five while not allowing a run. It was Jose Leclerc that blew the save, his second of the season. He gave up the three runs in the ninth and now has an 8.44 ERA. At the plate, Joey Gallo and Asdrubal Cabrera each drove in two for Texas.
MLB Betting Trends
Pittsburgh
The Pirates are 5-1 in their last six road games against a right-handed starter and 20-6 in their last 26 interleague games.
Texas
The Rangers are 1-6 in their last seven against a losing team and 1-4 in their last five following a loss.
Prediction:
Both starters today haven’t been outstanding, steadily giving up 3-4 runs in most starts. The issue comes with the bullpens, as I don’t trust the Texas pen to back Miller up even if he pitches well. Pittsburgh is able to grind out innings on the mound while they wait for runs to come. The Pirates showed they can come through in the clutch on Tuesday and ended a long win streak. That usually means a positive swing is set to happen.
MLB Prediction: Pittsburgh Pirates -135
