Sabathia hits 3,000 K’s in loss
New York lost by a count of 3-1 Tuesday night at New York to snap its three-game winning streak as it fell to 17-12 overall and 9-5 on the road. CC Sabathia took the loss as he surrendered two earned runs on seven hits over 5 1/3 innings, striking out five and walking two. He also reached the 3,000-strikeout milestone for his career. The Yankees tied it at 1-1 in the top of the fourth inning on a Gleyber Torres ground-rule double that scored Gary Sanchez. The D-backs took the lead back in the bottom of the fourth and added an insurance run in the eighth. Torres was 2-for-4 with the RBI double, while Sanchez was 1-for-4 with a double and the run scored. Masahiro Tanaka starts today as he comes in with a 3-1 record, 3.60 ERA, 1.29 WHIP plus 30 strikeouts over 35 innings.
Greinke sharp again
Zack Greinke shined in Arizona’s 3-1 home win Tuesday night over New York as the hosts improved to 17-13 overall and 6-7 at Chase Field. Greinke moved to 5-1 on the season as he went 7 2/3 innings while allowing one earned run on five hits with seven strikeouts and one walk. Greg Holland struck out one in a perfect ninth inning for his fourth save. Eduardo Escobar led the Diamondbacks’ offense as he was 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles and a run. Wilmer Flores was 2-for-3 with a home run, a walk and two RBIs. Merrill Kelly will start today for Arizona as he is 2-2 on the season with a 3.94 ERA, 1.38 WHIP with 27 strikeouts over 29 2/3 innings.
MLB Betting Trends
New York
The Yankees are 9-2 in their last 11 games overall. New York is 15-6 in its last 21 interleague road games.
Arizona
The Diamondbacks are 4-1 in the last five meetings. Arizona is 6-2 in its last eight games overall.
Prediction:
The Yankees might have the better pitcher on the mound today, but Tanaka is prone to poor outings and he’ll be backed by a team that is likely road fatigued at this point. Arizona hasn’t been as strong at home as on the road through one month, but expect that to continue to even out. Kelly is a serviceable pitcher who is getting more comfortable at the MLB level. Facing a lineup without so many stars due to injury, look for Kelly to be effective today and lead the hosts to a win.
