Mets’ Wheeler to get another start
Zack Wheeler took the loss after allowing three runs in six innings against the Nationals on Tuesday. Wheeler limited the damage, but he just wasn’t very impressive in giving up seven hits and three walks while striking out only two.
On the plus side, he did go 2-for-2 with the bat and score one of the Mets’ two runs. It still seems likely that he’ll head back to Triple-A when Jason Vargas comes off the disabled list.
Cards’ Weaver coming off brutal start vs. Cubs
Luke Weaver was roughed up for six runs in four innings by the Cubs on Thursday. Weaver had allowed a total of four runs in 17 1/3 innings on the season. He’s been pretty terrific since joining the Cardinals rotation at the end of July, but two of his three ugly outings have come against the Cubs; he gave up eight runs in three innings last Sept. 25.
It was singles that did him in vs. Chicago; he gave up a triple to Javier Baez to get the first inning going, but three singles produced the two runs in the frame and then he allowed five more singles in a four-run second.
MLB Betting Trends
New York
The Mets are 12-5 in their last 17 games overall and have won seven of their last nine road games.
St. Louis
The Cardinals are 8-1 in their last nine games overall and have won four of their last five home games.
Prediction:
Weaver was roughed up against the Cubs but it was more death by a thousand paper cuts as Chicago kept singling him to death in the first couple of innings. For whatever reason, Weaver has not fared well against the Cubs thus far in his career but this kid has as much upside as any pitcher in baseball. With Wheeler toeing the rubber for the Mets, I feel good about laying a big number on the Cards.
The Pick: St. Louis Cardinals -170
