Mariners’ King Felix pitches well in loss to A’s
Felix Hernandez pitched well in a loss to the Athletics on Sunday, allowing two runs on five hits with seven strikeouts over 6 1/3 innings.
A two-run homer by Jed Lowrie in the first inning was all Felix would yield, but it was enough on a day when Sean Manaea dominated the M’s offense. Even so, it was an encouraging turn for the veteran starter, who now owns a 2-2 record with a 5.48 ERA and 1.27 WHIP through four starts.
King Felix may be a thing of the past, but the Mariners will surely take this iteration every time out. They’ll hope to see it again Friday against the Rangers.
Rangers’ Minor coming off first rough start of 2018
Mike Minor let in five runs in five innings but escaped without a loss to the Astros on Saturday. He rolled through the first three frames without a scratch but stumbled badly in the fourth. He loaded the bases with nobody out before Carlos Correa doubled and Yuli Gurriel homered to put the Rangers in a 5-0 hole.
It was the first rough outing of the year for Minor, who is returning to a starting role after thriving last year in the Royals’ bullpen. He is now 1-1 with a 4.60 ERA through three starts. He has 14 strikeouts and five walks in 15 2/3 innings.
MLB Betting Trends
Seattle
The Mariners are 5-1 in Hernandez’s last six road starts and have won six of his last eight outings versus the rest of the American League West.
Texas
The Rangers are just 1-4 in their last five games against the Mariners when Hernandez starts and have dropped six of their last eight home games versus Seattle.
Prediction:
This is an underrated game to take the under (currently sitting at 9). Minor is coming off a rough outing but that was against the Astros. He has strikeout ability is facing a Mariners team that didn’t hit much in their last series against the aforementioned Astros. The under is 5-1-1 in Hernandez’s last seven starts coming off four days of rest and is a perfect 4-0 in his last four outings when starting Game 1 of a series. On the other side, the under is 7-3-1 in the Rangers’ last 11 games following an off day and 4-1 in their last five contests on Friday.
The Pick: Mariners/Rangers under 9
