Weather impacting White Sox
The White Sox are playing in their first game since Thursday due to weather issues. Chicago hasn’t been playing well anyway, losing six of their last seven games prior to this break. The White Sox are now 4-8 overall and 3-3 on the road. Chicago is putting up 4.0 runs per game this season while allowing 5.25 per contest.
Reynaldo Lopez has started twice this season and gets the nod tonight. He has allowed just one earned run over 13 innings with 11 strikeouts and seven walks. His WHIP is just 0.85 while his ERA is 0.69.
Athletics ready to return home
Oakland just wrapped up an 8-game road trip on Sunday. The Athletics were 3-5 over the eight games to fall to 6-10 on the season. Oakland is back home now where it is also 3-5. The Athletics are averaging 4.62 runs per game this season, but allowing 5.31 per game.
Daniel Mengden gets the start for Oakland tonight. He is making his fourth start of the season tonight and his first three have been shaky. He has yet to get through six innings of any of them and he has allowed 11 earned runs over 16 innings. His WHIP is 1.31 while his ERA is 6.19.
MLB Betting Trends
Chicago
Despite their struggles, the White Sox have won four of their last five against AL West opponents and they have won four of Lopez’ last five starts on grass. However, Chicago has dropped all four series openers this year.
Oakland
Oakland has lost 9 of its last 12 Monday games and seven of Mengden’s last nine home starts. They also have dropped his last four starts at home against a team with a losing record.
Prediction:
These two teams are built similarly right now with the ability to score some runs, but not the ability to keep runs off the board. However, Chicago is starting a pitcher that actually has been competitive on the mound for them. Oakland can’t say the same. I think Chicago may be able to pull this one out on the road with a rested bullpen and solid starter.
The Pick: Chicago White Sox +130
