Arizona Diamondbacks Fantasy Spin

Greg Holland worked a scoreless ninth for his second save Tuesday against the Padres. Holland allowed a leadoff single and then a hard liner to Ian Kinsler, but Kinsler's drive was caught in left. Eric Hosmer followed with a double-play ball, only to reach first after Holland fired wildly to second and the Diamondbacks settled for one out. Holland, though, bounced back from there to strike out Manny Machado to end it, giving him two scoreless innings this season. Last year at this time, his ERA was something like 460.00, if we recall.

San Diego Padres Fantasy Spin

In just his second start in six games, Hunter Renfroe hit a pair of homers off Zack Greinke Tuesday in a loss to the Diamondbacks. Renfroe seemed to be a sure starter for the Padres before struggling all spring and getting benched against back-to-back lefties to open the season. He deserves to play after hitting .248/.302/.504 last season, but we can hardly blame the Padres for thinking Franmil Reyes has more upside in right field. Until something gives, neither makes for a very good play in mixed leagues.

MLB Betting Trends

Arizona

The Diamondbacks are 11-23 in their last 34 games dating back to last season.

San Diego

The Padres are 17-35 in their last 52 games versus a left-handed starter.

Prediction:

The Diamondbacks have won eight of Robbie Ray’s last nine starts versus the Padres and have won four of his last five road outings versus San Diego. Arizona has won 10 of its last 13 games at Petco Park and is also 10-4 in its last 14 meetings with the Padres overall. San Diego, meanwhile, has dropped five of Joey Lucchesi’s last six outings versus the Diamondbacks so Arizona has plenty of appeal as an underdog today.

The Pick: Arizona Diamondbacks +120
