Analysis:
I strongly suspect the Hawkeyes will garner a lot of love here. Yes, Kinnick stadium is a formidable place to travel to. Been there multiple times. Actually a fantastic fan base. But the points are there for a valid reason. While the Hawkeyes are no longer to stuck in the mud offense they were they are in a little over their skis here. Dan Lanning and his staff are off a bye week preparing for the trip to Iowa City. Iowa is stingy against the run only allowing 2.6 yards average per rush. But the Ducks are far from one dimensional and Donte Moore should have success through the air. And since joining the Big 10 the Ducks have proven time and again to be road warriors. Oregon has yet to drop a road game this season. I just don’t think it’s a great matchup for Iowa. Close game at the half but Ducks get clear of them down the stretch. I’ve conferred with three sources extremely close to these programs. One with one and two the other. It was unanimous in agreement here. I’m going large with the Ducks laying what I consider a reasonable number.

Weekend best bets: Pro bettors, handicappers on 27-6 run against spread​

The Panthers have won and covered four of their last five games, bouncing back from a blowout loss to the Bills on Oct. 26 with a stunning upset win over the Packers last week at Lambeau Field.

CBS Sportsline handicapper Micah Roberts and pro sports bettor Jeff Whitelaw are banking on Carolina to win and cover again Sunday as a 5½-point home favorite over the Saints.

“It’s not the greatest spot because (the Panthers are) coming off a big win at Green Bay,” Whitelaw said. “But they’re playing a lot better and the Saints look like they’re giving things away.”

New Orleans traded two offensive starters this week in wide receiver Rashid Shaheed and offensive lineman Trevor Penning.

Roberts, on an 11-4 against the spread run in the Review-Journal NFL Challenge, noted the Saints are 0-4 on the road with losses to the Rams, Bears, Bills and Seahawks.

“(The Saints are) not close to being good, and they have a quarterback controversy with Tyler Shough taking over as the starter. Spencer Rattler wasn’t much better,” said Roberts (@MicahRoberts7). “(Panthers quarterback) Bryce Young has won and covered all three of his home starts.”

Here are seven more weekend best bets (home team in CAPS), which are on a 27-6 ATS run:

Giants-BEARS over 46½

Pro bettor Chuck Edel, 9-1 ATS on his RJ best bets, is backing the Bears and Giants to go over the total. Chicago is 29th in the NFL in scoring defense, allowing 28.4 points per game. New York is 28th, giving up 27.7 ppg.

“The Bears and Giants, with banged up defenses, have been struggling as of late,” said Edel (@chuckedel). “Both teams are improving on the offensive side of the ball.”

The Bears beat the Bengals 47-42 last week and are sixth in the league in scoring (26.9 ppg).

VIKINGS (+4) over Ravens
Pro bettor Randy McKay, on a 5-1 run on his RJ best bets, and Whitelaw made Minnesota a best bet over Baltimore.

“Minnesota is a home underdog that is getting healthier,” said McKay (@RR39). “Baltimore’s defense is the concern after it gave up big yardage to Miami but was bailed out by turnovers.

“Vikings defensive coordinator Brian Flores will have a game plan for (Ravens quarterback) Lamar Jackson.”

Browns (-2) over JETS

Whitelaw bet on Cleveland +1 when New York traded cornerback Sauce Gardner and defensive tackle Quinnen Williams.
“The Jets got rid of their two best defensive players, and I was leaning a little toward Cleveland to begin with,” Whitelaw said. “(The Jets are) seemingly giving up on the season.”

Colts (-6½) over Falcons, at Berlin

Westgate SuperBook vice president of marketing Jay Kornegay, who leads the RJ Challenge (27-17-1 ATS), expects Indianapolis to bounce back from last week’s 27-20 loss to the Steelers.

“Despite the ugliness in Pittsburgh, I still believe the Colts are one of the top teams,” Kornegay said. “For some reason, the Falcons can’t run the ball now and are leaving a lot in (quarterback Michael) Penix’s hands. That most likely will lead to turnovers against a solid Indy defense.”

Cardinals (+6½) over SEAHAWKS

“For as good as the Seahawks have been playing, this is simply too many points for them to lay in a division game,” said two-time top-five Westgate SuperContest finisher “Dr. Alan” Dumond, 3-1 on his RJ best bets and 13-5 ATS in Marc Lawrence’s Playbook Wise Guys contest. “The Cardinals’ five losses have all been by four points or less, including a three-point loss at home earlier this season to the Seahawks.”

MISSOURI (+7) over Texas A&M

“The Tigers have lost once (to Alabama) in their last 16 home games and can run the ball, while A&M’s rush defense can be had,” said Gamblersworld.net handicapper Chip Chirimbes, who leads the RJ College Challenge (29-20-1 ATS). “Mizzou off of a bye giving their starting freshman quarterback (Matt Zollers) two weeks to prepare.

“The hype is high on the No. 3 Aggies but they just might stumble here.”

Air Force (+5½) over SAN JOSE STATE
“If nothing else, the Falcons are consistent, with four straight games decided by exactly three points. The Force lost three of those, but could have won them all, and can still salvage the campaign and a bowl bid with wins in the last four, as it did last season,” said CBS Sportsline handicapper Bruce Marshall, 8-2 ATS on his RJ best bets. “The schedule is favorable, and the option is still operating at full capacity.

“In an expected tight finish, the points might come in handy.”

College Football Prediction From Robert Ferringo:
Take #145 Indiana (-14.5) over Penn State (Noon, Saturday, Nov. 8)

I am 57-34 (63%) with my last 91 Doc’s Sports newsletter plays. We have racked up 83 of 129 wins in this space (65%) and I am 128-75 (64%) with my newsletter plays over the last 203 weeks. I think that Penn State is cooked. I think that they had one final big effort in them and it came out in the first half of last week’s Ohio State game. That was a marquee game, they had a bye week to prepare, and they went out and traded blows with the nation’s No. 1 team for 30 minutes. Then it fell apart and they were outscored 21-0 in the second half to lose 38-14 and fail to cover the spread (again). This is an all-time train wreck season for the Nittany Lions, who fired their head coach, lost their quarterback, have seen players’ NFL draft stock plummet, and have let down an excited fan base. What’s left? I know that Curt Cignetti doesn’t care about any of that. Cignetti will look at Ohio State’s 24-point victory margin and accept that as a challenge. The Hoosiers have been a bully under Cignetti, beating their last three opponents by a combined 149-29. The Hoosiers are 6-2 ATS in their last eight games and they are 15-6 ATS in their last 21 games overall. Penn State is 0-12 SU in its last 12 games as an underdog and 3-9 ATS in their last 12 overall. The Nittany Lions’ struggles against Top 10 teams are well documented and I don’t think that this group is in any shape to put up a fight.

College Football Prediction From Scott Rickenbach:

Take #156 Mississippi State (+8) over Georgia (Noon, Saturday, Nov. 8)
As strong as Georgia is, the fact is Mississippi State finally got that long awaited SEC win Saturday! It was their first since October of 2023 and that could help them turn the corner here finally. Note that Mississippi State’s 4 SEC losses featured 3 tight ones as 2 were in OT and another one was by just 2 points. The point is that they are much better than their record shows and their only ugly loss was at A & M. They are at home for this one plus Georgia has a huge game versus Texas on deck. Georgia’s 3 road wins by an average margin of only 6 points and I agree with this line move (has come down to as low as 7.5 after opening as high as 9.5). There is a lot of value with this home dog catching more than a TD here! Grab the big points with Miss State.

College Football Prediction From Strike Point Sports:

Take #151 Wake Forest (+6.5) over Virginia (7 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 8)
This is a must win for Virginia as they are currently 8-1 straight up and first in the ACC. Virginia has their sights set on an ACC Title and possible trip to the CFP. They cannot afford to trip up here and will be focused on playing an efficient game against Wake Forest. But, Wake Forest has one of the most underrated defenses in college football, and they are absolutely good enough to keep this game within the number. Wake has already beaten SMU and took Georgia Tech to the wire. Wake looked awful against Florida State last weekend, but that was a huge let down spot after beating SMU in front of their home crowd. I do expect Atlanta to keep this game close as this team is much better than their record indicates. Atlanta does have 7 touchdown passes and just 1 interception over their last five games. NFL Prediction From Jason Sharpe:
Take #269 Detroit (-9) over Washington (4:25 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 9)

You have to wonder how much fight this Washington team has left after falling to 3-6 after their embarrassing home loss last Sunday night to Seattle. The Commanders had some high expectations coming into this season but they will now without their starting quarterback Jayden Daniels who may be out for the rest of the year after his gruesome injury last in their last contest. The Detroit Lions were also embarrassed in their last game losing at home as nearly double-digit favorites last Sunday to Minnesota. The Lions tend to respond in these scenarios as they’ve not lost back-to-back games in over three years. I expect Detroit gets back to basics in this one and grinds out a win and cover here. Lay the points with Detroit in this game.

NFL Prediction From Griffin Murphy:
Take Green Bay (-2.5) over Philadelphia (8 p.m., Monday, Nov. 10)

Green Bay comes into this primetime matchup as a 2.5-point favorite. Philadelphia is coming into this game 6-2 on the year and coming off a bye. Philadelphia torched the Giants in a 38-20 final in their most recent matchup, so we have some speculation. Green Bay just lost outright at home to the Panthers as a 13.5-point favorite. Now they are laying 2.5 points against last season’s Super Bowl champions? This game has traps written all over it, and we are riding the Packers through this one.
