Silva (33-6) was the pound-for-pound top fighter in all of the UFC for years, but he is coming off back-to-back losses to middleweight champion Chris Weidman. In his last fight in December of 2013, Silva’s leg shattered, putting him on a long road to recovery. Diaz (26-9) is a controversial fighter that typically fights at 170 pounds, but is moving up to 185 pounds for this fight. He lost his last two fights in the UFC as well, both by decision. He hasn’t fought since March of 2013, but his aggressive style draws a lot of attention.
According to oddsmakers at Bovada.lv, Silva is the clear favorite to win this fight, as he has been given a money line of -450 to win, while Diaz has been given odds of +325 to prevail. These two will meet in the main event of UFC 183 this Saturday night at 10PM ET on PPV.
It’s hard to see anyone being able to compete with Silva on his feet. His speed, accuracy and power are unmatched by anyone. Diaz likes to press forward and get in his opponent’s face, but Silva shouldn’t have much trouble dealing with that. The big question about Silva is will he be tentative to use his kicks, which are a big part of his style. Coming off an injury like he is, there could be a mental block. If Silva is passive in his style, it could open the door for an upset.
