Henderson (21-4) is the former UFC lightweight champion, but he has lost two of his last four and is coming off first-round KO loss to Rafael dos Anjos in August. Cerrone (26-6) has won six straight and is coming off a decision win over Myles Jury just 13 days ago on Jan. 3. Henderson was originally scheduled to face Eddie Alvarez, but Alvarez had to pull out of the fight due to illness and Cerrone agreed to take the fight on short notice, hoping to earn a title shot with a win.
According to oddsmakers at Bovada.lv, Henderson is the slight favorite in this fight, as he has odds of -145 to win, while Cerrone has been given a money line of +115 to prevail. This fight will be the co-main event of Sunday’s UFC Fight Night card from the TD Garden in Boston and it will air on Fox Sports 1 at 10PM ET.
These two have met twice before in the WEC, with Henderson winning both fights. The first encounter was October of 2009 with Henderson winning a five-round decision. The second fight came in April of 2010 and saw Henderson catch Cerrone in a guillotine choke in the first round. Both are much different fighters now. Henderson has developed his striking and still has a strong wrestling background. Cerrone has become one of the top strikers at 155 pounds and will likely win if this fight stays standing.
