(The Spread) – The Dallas Mavericks have done the impossible, pushing the Miami Heat to the brink of elimination in the NBA Finals. Now all they have to do is close out the series in one of the next two games to claim their championship.
Dirk Nowitzki and company won’t have it easy when action resumes in Florida Sunday night, but that they’ve even put themselves in this position is a testament to the unpredictability of the NBA betting field.
From now until Sunday night, both fans and critics of Miami’s Big Three will have plenty of time to consider how the star-studded Heat will respond to consecutive losses to a Dallas team that many considered a potential first-round upset victim.
According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bodog, the Heat are 6-point favorites for tonight’s Game 6 matchup with the Mavericks.
Call it Dwyane Wade’s injury, LeBron James’ failure to show up down the stretch, call it whatever you want. The real reason why the Heat find themselves down 3-2 is that the Mavs have simply torn apart Miami’s superstar advantage and replaced it with their own 7’0” German version.
But regardless of the momentum that Dallas has heading into Game 6, there’s no avoiding the basic fact that the match will be held in Miami, with a Heat team desperate to fend off the litany of criticisms that have poured in their direction since the season began.
That motivation is why the Heat are listed as favorites on the night, and that’s why – regardless of the feel-good Dallas story line – this series isn’t over yet.
