(The Spread) – Who will grace the cover of the 2013 edition of the popular video game series Madden? As of right now, Panthers’ dynamic quarterback Cam Newton is favored.
Newton is favored by oddsmakers at 2/3, while Lions’ wide receiver Calvin Johnson is 7/2 and Packers’ quarterback Aaron Rodgers is 11/2. Patriots’ tight end Rob Gronkowski is 7/1 to win the cover of the 2013 Madden game, while Giants’ salsa-dancing wideout Victor Cruz is 10/1 and Houston running back Arian Foster is 18/1.
Ray Rice of the Ravens is 18/1 while Drew Brees is 25/1. LeSean McCoy of the Eagles, Marshawn Lynch of the Seahawks, Maurice Jones-Drew of the Jaguars and Patrick Willis of the 49ers are all 25/1, respectively.

The long shots to be on the cover of the 2013 Madden game are Antonio Gates (Chargers), Darrelle Revis (Jets), Jared Allen (Vikings), and Larry Fitzgerald (Cardinals), who shared the cover with Steelers’ safety Troy Polamalu a couple of years ago. All four of the players listed above (minus Polamalu) are 40/1, respectively.
Newton absolutely blew up as a rookie last season, completing 60-percent of his passes for 4,051 yards and 21 touchdowns. He also rushed for 706 yards on 126 carries and scored 14 rushing touchdowns while averaging 5.6 yards per carry. “Megatron,” meanwhile, caught 96 passes for 1,681 yards and 16 touchdowns to lead the Lions last season.
