Social Inclusion Preakness Odds
BALTIMORE, MD (The Spread) – Despite not running in the Kentucky Derby two weeks ago, Social Inclusion is listed among the favorites to win the 2014 Preakness Stakes.
According to oddsmakers from online sports book BetDSI, Social Inclusion is currently 6/1 to win Saturday’s Preakness. California Chrome remains the favorite at 4/7, but no other contenders outside of California Chrome have better odds than Social Inclusion. That speaks volumes to the 3-year-old colt’s chances to win this weekend, seeing as how he didn’t even run in the first leg of the Triple Crown this year.
Social Inclusion is coming off a third-place showing in the Grade I Wood Memorial on April 5. He finished behind only Wicked Strong and Samraat, who both ran in the Kentucky Derby two weeks ago at Churchill Downs. In his only other career starts, Social Inclusion won a MSW on February 22 and an Allowance on March 12.
On Wednesday Social Inclusion drew the No. 8 post position, which has only produced two winners in the last 29 starts at the Preakness. The No. 7 post position, held currently by Kid Cruz, has produced seven wins in 30 starts over the last 30 years. That’s the best winning percentage among any post at the Preakness since 1984.
One thing to consider this weekend is the weather. Storms have hit the Baltimore, Maryland area over the past 24 hours and if a storm hits before the Preakness, it’ll be interesting to see how the contenders handle a muddy track. If the dirt has enough time to dry, then the track should run fast. But in 2009 a 50/1 long shot named Mine that Bird won the Kentucky Derby on a muddy track so keep up to date on the weather because it could level the field.
