Best Picture Odds
HOLLYWOOD, CA (TheSpread) – The award of the night at the 2011 Academy Awards will be for Best Picture. Here are the odds for the 10 nominees of Sunday’s biggest award.
In the Best Picture category, The King’s Speech is favored to win according to oddsmakers from online sportsbook Sportsbook.com as it has odds of -1000 to win. Other short odds to win are The Social Netowrk (+250), The Fighter (+2500), and True Grit (+2500). Six other movies are nominated but have odds of +3000 or greater.
The King’s Speech has become the runaway favorite since winning the 2011 SAG Award for best picture and best acting by an ensemble. The movie is about King George VI, who overcomes his stutter with the help of therapy. Colin Firth was the lead actor and is up for Best Actor while Geoffrey Rush was the therapist and he is up for Best Supporting Actor.
The other possible winner appears to be the Social Network, which is a movie about the founder of Facebook and how the online empire was built and the dark back-story to its rise to mainstream usage. The movie won Best Picutre-Drama at the 2011 Golden Globes but lost to The King’s Speech at the SAG Awards. Like The King’s Speech, The Social Network has a number of nominations for acting, including Best Actor for Jesse Eisenberg.
The 2011 Academy Awards will take place on Feb. 27 from the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood and will air live on ABC starting at 8:30PM ET. For complete odds for the Best Picture category, see below
