Biathlon Men’s Pursuit
In just its third appearance in Olympic history, the Biathlon Men’s 12.5 Kilometer Pursuit is a sports that combines skiing and shooting in a pursuit-style race.
In this event, the top 60 finishers in the 10 kilometer sprint can compete in the pursuit. The sprint winner starts the race and the racer’s final deficit behind sprint winner corresponds to their starting deficit in the pursuit. Competitors race over five loops of a 2.5 kilometer skiing course, shooting twenty times after each loop. 10 shots are prone and 10 shots are standing. Each miss requires a competitor to ski a 150-meter penalty loop.
One of the young stars of the sports, Emil Hegle Svendsen, is favored to win the gold in this event.
Svendsen enters the Olympics with odds of 5/2 according to online sports book Brobury Sports. Other short odds to win are Ole Einar Bjoerndalen (3/1), The Field (5/1), and Dominik Landertinger (12/1).
