The 2009 Barclays begins play on Thursday, Aug. 27 and our team of writers and handicappers have put together three free picks for this week’s PGA event.

The Barclays begins the FedEx Cup playoffs, with the top 125 golfers on the PGA Tour from this season eligible to play. The field is stacked with talent, but here are some plays to consider for this weekend’s tournament

Tiger Woods 7/4

You can never go wrong with Tiger, as he has won two of his last three events. Woods hasn’t finished outside the top 10 in any non-major championship four round tournaments this year. Woods was the 2007 FedEx Cup winner, but missed the 2008 playoffs due to his knee injury.

Steve Stricker 33/1

Stricker missed the cut at the PGA Championship but made nine-straight cuts prior to the final major. Stricker has won twice in 2009 and finished in the top 20 of the 2008 Barclays. Stricker has finished in the top 25 of the last six FedEx Cup playoff events.

Retief Goosen 40/1

Goosen has been playing well in tour events over the last few months. Before a 51^st place finish at the PGA Championship, Goosen had finished sixth or better in four of his last five tournaments. Goosen has two wins in 2009 and has seven top-10 finishes.
