Eagles Season Odds
After producing another quality offseason, the Philadelphia Eagles feel as though they’re in prime position to make another run at the Super Bowl this season.
The biggest move the Eagles made this offseason was trading for former Bills’ offensive tackle Jason Peters, who will now anchor the left tackle position and protect quarterback Donovan McNabb’s blindside. The team also signed free agent offensive tackle Stacy Andrews, fullback Leonard Weaver and safety Sean Jones.
In the draft, the Eagles added a lot of raw, but outstanding athletic talent in first round pick Jeremy Maclin, second rounder “Shady” McCoy and fifth rounders Clint Ingram and Victor “Macho” Harris.
Oddsmakers from online sports book SBGGLOBAL have established the Eagles’ odds to win Super Bowl XLIV at 12/1. They’ve also given Philadelphia 6.5/1 odds to win the NFC and 2.3/1 odds to win the NFC East.
The trade for Peters was incredibly significant, as he should have a big impact on the Eagles’ offensive line for years to come. Philly was also able to extend McNabb’s contract and give him piece of mind heading into this season, which should only help his play. The defense should once again be solid and this team has two explosive playmakers in Maclin and fellow wideout DeSean Jackson. This team does have a massive concern, however, and that’s the health of running back Brian Westbrook, who is expected to miss the entire preseason with an ankle injury. Assuming Westbrook will be healthy and ready to go in Week 1, there should be nothing stopping the Eagles making a deep postseason run in ’09.
