The NHL postseason kicks off Wednesday and runs through the next couple of weeks leading up to the 2009 Stanley Cup Finals. Oddsmakers from online sports book SBG Global have established the series prices for the first round NHL games that start on Thursday.
Oddsmakers have established the defending Stanley Cup Finals champion Detroit Red Wings as massive –500 favorites to beat the Columbus Blue Jackets in their best of seven series. The Blue Jackets’ odds to win the series have been set at +350.
The Boston Bruins, who earned the No. 1 seed in the Eastern Conference this season, are –350 favorites to beat the No. 8-seeded Montreal Canadiens, who are +275 to win the series.
The closest series in terms of odds is the best of seven between the Calgary Flames and Chicago Blackhawks. The Flames are +120, while the Blackhawks are –150 to win the series. The Anaheim Ducks and San Jose Sharks series is expected to be somewhat tight too, as oddsmakers have established the Ducks’ odds to win the series at +220 and the Sharks at –280.
