Max Scherzer was victorious after allowing three runs over six innings against the Marlins in his Opening Day assignment on Thursday. Scherzer blanked the Marlins over the first five innings before running out of gas in the sixth. He allowed an RBI double to Luis Arráez before Garrett Cooper tied things up with a two-run homer. Fortunately for him, the Mets picked him up by plating two runs in the seventh. The veteran right-hander struck out six and walked a pair while racking up 13 swinging strikes in his 91 pitches. He’ll look to show more consistency in his next turn, which will come against the Brewers in Milwaukee next week.
Milwaukee Brewers DFS SPIN
Brewers signed LHP Wade Miley to a one-year, $4.5 million contract with a $10 million mutual option for 2024. The deal, which was agreed to last week, is now official after Miley passed his physical. The 36-year-old veteran southpaw, who spent the 2018 season with the Brewers, returns to bolster Milwaukee’s crowded starting rotation after struggling through an injury-plagued campaign last year with the division-rival Cubs. He missed significant chunks of last season due to elbow and shoulder issues, that wound up limiting him to just eight starts. It’s a tough landing spot for fantasy purposes, which limits his appeal to extremely deep mixed leagues and NL-only formats, if he can stay healthy.
