Padres’ Ross last only four innings in last start
Tyson Ross surrendered six hits and four runs over four innings Wednesday in the Padres’ loss to the Rockies. Ross recorded seven strikeouts and three walks over his 94 pitches. After pitching a scoreless first, Ross let up three hits in the second inning with one run coming across on Tony Wolters’ RBI single to left field. He fared even worse in the third, allowing three walks and a two-run triple to David Dahl.
Ross flirted with a no-hitter in his last start and still owns a respectable 3.64 ERA for the year despite his struggles Wednesday at Coors Field. The right-hander will face another division rival in his next outing Tuesday at San Francisco.
Giants recall Suarez for start on Tuesday
Giants LHP prospect Andrew Suarez gave up one run over seven innings while striking out nine for Triple-A Sacramento on Thursday. Suarez allowed just three hits, and he walked only one. The 2015 second-round pick pitched better in his start with the Giants than the stat line suggests, and he owns a 1.16 ERA in his four starts at the minor league level.
Suarez doesn’t have elite upside, but his ability to command four pitches to both sides of the plate gives him a great chance of being a starter, albeit a backend one. He’ll draw the start on Tuesday when the Giants host the Padres.

Prediction:
Ross has more upside than Suarez but I like the Giants tonight for two reasons. One, they’re hot. After struggling just two weeks ago to keep their head above water, the Giants have climbed back to one game over .500. The second reason I like the home team tonight is that the current roster for the Giants has seen Ross. The current roster for the Padres has not seen Suarez. I’m banking on the Giants starting out hot and finishing late.
