Padres now 16/1 to win World Series
SAN DIEGO, CA (The Spread) – Following their latest move in what has turned out to be a busy offseason, the Padres’ 2015 World Series odds have improved.
On Monday the Padres signed starter James Shields to a four-year contract worth $75 million in guaranteed money. The deal includes a buyout on the $16 million club option for 2019. The 33-year-old is from the San Diego area and was reportedly seeking an opportunity to pitch on the West Coast.
According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, the Padres are now 16/1 to win the 2015 World Series after signing Shields. The team was 25/1 to win the World Series before signing Shields and opened as 75/1 long shots following last year’s Fall Classic. Clearly oddsmakers like what San Diego has done this offseason.
First-year GM A.J. Preller has been busy this offseason, signing Shields, Derek Norris and Will Middlebrooks while also adding outfielders Matt Kemp, Wil Myers and Justin Upton via trade. The expectation is that the Padres will be vastly improved in 2015.
