Ravens cover in Super Bowl XLVII
NEW ORLEANS, LA (The Spread) – The Baltimore Ravens are your Super Bowl XLVII champions after beating the San Francisco 49ers outright as a small underdog.
Depending on what sports book you viewed entering the game, the 49ers were either a 4.5 or 4-point favorite for Sunday’s game. But regardless of the spread at kickoff, the Ravens covered the spread rather easily with their 34-31 victory. Even though they squandered a 22-point lead early in the second half, Baltimore never trailed in the contest.
As for the total, it opened at 48.5 but was bet down to either 48 or 47.5, depending on the sports book. The combined score of 65 points soared over the number, as both teams combined for 38 second-half points.
Joe Flacco completed 22-of-33 passes for 287 yards and three touchdowns without throwing an interception. He was named Super Bowl MVP for his efforts, which cashed in at +300 odds for bettors at online sports book Bovada.lv. Colin Kaepernick, who did throw for over 300 yards in the loss, was favored at +160 to win the MVP and probably would have won the award had San Francisco completed its dramatic comeback.
With the Ravens winning by three points, bettors would have won $700 on every $100 wagered on the margin of victory prop odds. For those that bet on the total points being scored would be between 61-65 points, they would have cashed $1,000 for every $100 wagered.
With Anquan Boldin scoring the first touchdown in the game, he paid out +1000 on the money line. Kaepernick scored the final touchdown of the game, which paid out +800 on the money line.
By covering the 4-point spread in the Super Bowl, Ray Rice and the Ravens covered the number in each of their four postseason wins in 2013. They covered as a 7.5-point home favorite against the Colts in the wild card round before covering as a 9.5-point road underdog at Denver in the Divisional Round. They also covered as an 8-point dog in the AFC Championship Game versus the Patriots.
