CHICAGO (AP) -Blackhawks coach Denis Savard received a contract extension through the 2008-09 season.
Savard has been the team’s coach since November following the dismissal of Trent Yawney. He finished the season with a 24-30-7 record.
General manager Dale Tallon was impressed with the job. He added that Savard – a Hall of Fame player who spent much of his career with the Blackhawks – will “put his heart and soul into coaching this team.”
The extension comes a few weeks after the Blackhawks signed Patrick Kane, the first overall pick in the June NHL draft.
