GAINESVILLE, Fla. (AP) – Florida guard Kenny Boynton is sitting out practice because of a sprained left ankle, but should be able to play Thursday night against Brigham Young in the NCAA tournament.
Coach Billy Donovan says his best defender is dealing with some discomfort, but adds that Boynton isn’t on crutches, wearing a protective boot or swollen. Those are all positive signs, especially since Boynton is expected to guard the nation’s leading scorer, Jimmer Fredette, in New Orleans.
Boynton injured his ankle Saturday after he landed on UCLA center Josh Smith’s foot late. Boynton returned to the court, but was clearly hobbled, so Donovan pulled him down the stretch.
The team’s second-leading scorer is expected to practice Tuesday. Donovan says “we fully expect him to play.”
