(The Spread) – After making several moves this offseason to help strengthen in their club, could the Chicago Cubs be a surprise team in 2011?

Oddsmakers from online sports book SBGGLOBAL.com have made the Cubs +3000 on the money line to win the 2011 World Series and +400 to win the NL Central. Their over/under total for wins this season has been set at 82.5 after they won just 75 games last year.
Offseason Additions: The team traded Chris Archer, Hak-Ju Lee, Robinson Chirinos, Sam Fuld and Brandon Guyer to the Rays in exchange for Matt Garza, Fernando Perez and Zach Rosscup. The Cubs also re-signed Aramis Ramirez to a one-year deal and added Carlos Penny and Kerry Wood to help improve their lineup and bullpen.
Offseason Losses: Along with the players they parted with in the Garza deal, the Cubs also lost Xavier Nady, Micah Hoffpauir and pitcher Tom Gorzelanny this offseason.
Season Outlook: The Garza trade and Pena signing makes this team better than it was a year ago, although a third or fourth place finish is probably still in the Cubs future. If Pena can stay healthy and the Cubs get good seasons out of Ramirez and youngster Starlin Castro, then they may surprise. But there are still too many question marks surrounding this club to think they’ll win the division. It would be nice if Carlos Zambrano went an entire year without blowing a fuse, but that might be asking too much.
