Super Bowl XLV Prop Picks
ARLINGTON, TX (TheSpread) – Super Bowl XLV is filled with hundreds of prop odds to consider playing, but which prop bets do we think are the smartest to play?
We’ve knocked down the numerous prop odds for Sunday’s game between the Pittsburgh Steelers and Green Bay Packers and put together our three favorite plays. All prop odds are coming from online sportsbook Sportsbook.com.
Our first play is OVER 75.5 RUSHING YARDS for Rashard Mendenhall. The Steelers running back has to be a factor in this game for Pittsburgh to win as the Packers have one of the top passing defenses in the NFL. Mendenahll has been seeing healthy amounts of carries all season and against a weaker rush defense, I expect him to have a big yardage output.
Another prop bet I like for Pittsburgh is A RUSHING ATTEMPT FOR MIKE WALLACE. The odds for Mike Wallace to get a rushing attempt is +170. Due to the elite secondary Green Bay has, I don’t see him getting a lot of production in the passing game. Green Bay will keep him from getting deep and he isn’t physical enough to get a lot of short-yardage passes. Pittsburgh coach Mike Tomlin will want to make sure Wallace gets the ball because of his explosive style, so if he can’t do it in the passing game, he will have to do it with a reverse or trick play. A successful bet for this play can nearly double your money.
For Green Bay, I like OVER 41.5 RECEIVING YARDS for Jordy Nelson. Nelson has been a steady force for Green Bay this season, catching 45 passes for 582 yards. In the playoffs, Nelson has had at least 67 receiving yards in the two games he played in and with the Pittsburgh defense looking to lock up Greg Jennings and Donald Driver, Nelson should get some looks on hot routes and be able to rack up a handful of 10-yard passes. Pittsburgh is more of a run-stuffing defense than a passing defense, so the door will be open for Green Bay to air things out and Nelson will have a favorable matchup for the Packers.
